St Benedict’s Catholic Parish, Inner Newcastle
St Benedict’s Catholic Parish, Inner Newcastle was formed in 2014 through the amalgamation of the former Parishes of Hamilton, Tighes Hill, Broadmeadow and Newcastle.
We are a Parish of the Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle. Geographically the Parish covers the suburbs of Newcastle, Newcastle East, Newcastle West, The Hill, Cooks Hill, Bar Beach, The Junction, Merewether, Merewether Heights, Hamilton, Hamilton South, Hamilton North, Hamilton East, Broadmeadow, Islington, Tighes Hill, Maryville, Wickham, and Carrington.
These suburbs are located on the traditional country of the Awabakal and Worimi peoples. St Benedict’s Parish pays respect to their cultural heritage, beliefs and continuing relationship with the land, and pays respect to their Elders past and present.
The Parish Office is the administrative hub of St Benedict’s Parish and is located in the former convent building located at 25 Farquhar Street, The Junction. The building housing the Parish Office was known as the City Region Catholic Centre.
As part of the renaming process undertaken by the Parish community in late 2015 and early 2016, the Parish Office building will now be known as the “St Benedict’s Centre”.
