In explaining the Kingdom of God to his listeners, Jesus paints images that are ordinary snapshots for his immediate listeners. For example, he uses salt, lamp, vineyard, yeast, weeds, a person scattering seeds on the field, among others. I think, and I may be mistaken, Jesus is not trying to simplify the richness of God’s Kingdom but rather is reminding us how the Reign of God operates even in the ordinariness of our lives. The transcendent God reveals God’s immanence in life’s regular rhythm. The question for us now is this: how have we seen God’s reign in the ordinary movements of our very own lives?
